Curtis Baum graduated the University of Northwestern as a piano performance major under Dr. Richard Lange and Dr. Paul Wirth. Curtis was selected as the winner of the 2016 Northwestern Concerto-Aria competition. While in college his musical involvement includes singing in the Northwestern Choir, playing Viola in the Northwestern Orchestra, and singing in the Byzantine Choral Festival and with the Evangelion Chorale for its 2017 Reformation tour of Germany. Curtis has substantial experience accompanying vocalists, instrumentalists, and choirs, and is also the pianist for Family Baptist Church in North Minneapolis.
Curtis studied with Dr. Horacio Nuguid in Rochester for his final three years of high school, and during that time received first prizes in the Rochester Music Guild, Claire Clements Madden, and Marguerite Hoffman scholarship competitions. He was also selected to perform in the Dorian Keyboard Festival Honors recital and the finals of the MMTA Senior Young Artist competition.
With four years of piano teaching experience, Curtis seeks to communicate with his students on their level and demonstrate the wonder and enjoyment found in understanding the piano and its music. Curtis is a member of MMTA, the Minnesota Music Teachers Association.
