This summer the University of Northwestern is proud to offer a wonderful new opportunity for young musicians: a chamber camp for wind players. High school brass and woodwind players are invited to come together on UNW’s beautiful lakeside campus for five days of pursuing musical excellence through chamber music.
Chamber music (pieces written for small ensembles of 3-12 musicians) encourages students to collaborate with one another, to build musical sensitivity, and to take ownership of their individual parts. Anticipated chamber ensembles include brass quintet, woodwind quintet, piano quintet, as well as trios and more.
During the camp, each student will learn how to perform challenging repertoire through chamber coaching, master classes, and individual private lessons with our stellar UNW faculty. All of our faculty are current or emeritus UNW faculty members and bring years of chamber music experience and a strong performance background to the students. Many of them perform regularly with the Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Orchestra, and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Application
The Chamber Wind Recital will be held Friday at the end of the camp week in Nazareth Hall. The Recital will be a presentation, by the students, of the chamber pieces they've been working on and the culmination of their experience during the camp.
Chamber Wind Camp is open to serious high school brass and woodwind players in grades 9-12, including 2019 graduates. Serious students who do not meet the grade requirements may apply pending a recommendation from their private instructor. For more information, please contact Dr. McBride-Harris.
Please submit an audio or video recording including 2 contrasting solos (1 lyrical, 1 technical), a 2 octave chromatic scale, a 2 octave major scale of choice, and a 2 octave minor scale of choice. This audition will be submitted through your online application with the provided media upload option.
Step 1: All interested students must apply online (opens March 1, 2019). Please include a video/audio recording with your online application. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee.
