ST. PAUL – Dr. Corbin Hoornbeek, President of University of Northwestern – St. Paul (UNW) and Northwestern Media, appointed Dr. Greg Johnson to the newly created role of Vice President for Strategy and Chief of Staff, effective November 28. Johnson previously served as Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications at the university.
The Vice President for Strategy and Chief of Staff position entails three major components, including the leadership of strategic planning initiatives, coordinating executive communications, and oversight of community and government relations. In this role, Johnson will manage high-priority projects and programs designed to support organizational goals that achieve the mission and vision across multiple divisions, including both that of UNW and Northwestern Media. In addition to developing relationships with local and government officials, he’ll also guide the President’s Cabinet and Board of Trustees through a strategic visioning and planning process, as well as develop relationships.
In an internal memo announcing the appointment to Northwestern employees, Hoornbeek noted, “As our organization moves into its next phase of strategic visioning, planning, and executing, Dr. Johnson is exceptionally gifted and professionally prepared to partner with the president’s cabinet, the Northwestern community, our board of trustees, and other internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and advance these efforts.”
Johnson, a Northwestern alumnus, has been employed by the organization in several capacities in Athletics and Marketing & Communications, and as an adjunct instructor over various periods of time for the last 15 years. Throughout his professional career, Johnson has served two other Christian universities in administrative roles and spent time on staff with the Alamo Bowl and San Antonio Spurs organizations in San Antonio, Texas. He is also the principal consultant at Apostle Consulting, a Minnesota-based organizational psychology firm.
