Parent Orientation

Welcome to Northwestern! Our desire is to connect your home to ours as you launch your child into college life. We know that this time is a big deal, and this fall there are added elements that none of us have ever experienced, but the university has been carefully planning every aspect of enrollment, academics, student life, and campus operations to ensure a safe and healthy community for students, faculty and staff.

Welcome New Families

We are excited for your arrival on campus! We want to provide you and your student the support and resources you need for a seamless transition to life at Northwestern.

Whether you are launching a student into college for the first time or have a returning student, we know that this time is an important milestone in their life. As your student transitions to life at UNW, we want to extend a warm welcome to the Northwestern community. As we walk this journey with your student together, we want you to know that we are here to equip, serve, and encourage you.

We have modified Parent Orientation for the safety of all and to allow adequate time for your student to check-in, get final questions answered and move into the dorms, if they will be a resident on campus. During student check-in, stop by our tent to meet the Parent Relations team, snap a family photo, write out a prayer of blessing for your student, and take the opportunity to touch base with Academic Achievement, Career Development or Student Life. Online Parent Orientation sessions will be available a week or two before students move to campus.

During Orientation—and throughout the year—the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations is here to support you. Please contact us anytime!

We also offer a monthly parent e-newsletter, you can sign up to receive today.  It is a our way to stay connected and keep our parents informed.  We also offer helpful parent blogs, resourcesFAQ's and host Mom's in Prayer.  We look forward to meeting and supporting you in your Northwestern journey.

Your student can find links to all the student orientation schedules on the Orientation page. Orientation schedules are also available to students on the New Student tab on theROCK.
