About the Department

The Department of Psychology studies God’s greatest work—humankind. The discipline of psychology seeks to understand the nature of human development, motivation, thinking, learning, and emotion. The study of psychology has practical value for Christian service because it enables students to see themselves as persons of worth and significance.

I graduated from Northwestern with a major in both Criminal Justice and Psychology. Without guidance from knowledgeable professors, I wouldn’t be where I am today. The program prepares students to make greater changes to a broken world and to be a part of the solution instead of just cleaning up the problem. God really used UNW to guide me and show me what I’m really capable of if I keep my eyes on Him. I am now in Law School preparing to be a Criminal Lawyer. I am very excited for what my future has in store and how God is going to lead me into the next chapter of life!

My education at Northwestern prepared me to further study clinical social work at the graduate level and hold firmly to my faith in the world of mental health.

My time at Northwestern in the psychology program set me up for success in all areas of my life. As a professional, wife, mother, and ministry leader, I rely almost daily on the education and training I received and experienced while in college. While I did not end up going on to work in a counseling field, that psychology degree has proven priceless! Raising kids, being married, helping plant a church with my husband, and facilitating training with hundreds of companies across the nation all require understanding people, and being able to adapt to different environments. I have countless fond memories of my professors, classes, projects, and classmates. If I were to go back in time, I’d absolutely do it all over again.

The Department of Psychology offers degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology. The department also partners with the School of Education to offer a degree in Social Studies Education.
