Sigma Tau Delta at Northwestern

Alpha Beta Omega is Northwestern’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. Active since 1993, Sigma Tau Delta exists to encourage scholarship in literature and writing and to provide fellowship for students and faculty. Students who have fulfilled the following requirements are eligible to be inducted into Sigma Tau Delta: achieving sophomore status or above, completing at least six credits of English at Northwestern, ranking in the top third of their class, and maintaining at least a B average in all English classes.

Events and opportunities

Our chapter sponsors a variety of events throughout the school year, including theatre excursions, thematic parties, literary movie nights, and other gatherings for students and faculty. These events are open to all English majors and minors.

Members are encouraged to submit their writing to two national publications sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta: The Sigma Tau Delta Review, which publishes critical essays, and The Rectangle, which publishes creative writing. In addition, Sigma Tau Delta holds an annual international convention, and chapter members from Northwestern have been selected to attend past conventions to present both critical and creative work. The convention also provides the opportunity to listen and learn from professional writers and critics.
