About the School
Our UNW Nursing students are walking in the steps of Northwestern students of the past, students who left a legacy of commitment to Christ and to God-honoring service in the healthcare profession.
Majors and Programs
The School of Nursing offers a degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The Nursing program offers several paths which provides students with the flexibility of choosing the path that works best for them.
The Traditional Path starts each year in January (Spring Term) and August (Fall Term) and has the summers off. The Accelerated Path starts in August (Fall Term) each year and goes through all four terms back-to-back. If a student begins as a freshman, they will complete their degree in four years (eight semesters). Any credits transferred in or previously earned degrees may adjust a student’s timeline. Students should contact their admissions counselor for more information.
This pre-licensure program provides a strong foundation in biblical studies, liberal arts, and the scenes. This degree prepares you to take and pass the NCLEX and four top graduates programs in nursing and careers in healthcare
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) pre-licensure program is granted approval from the Minnesota Board of Nursing. Nursing candidates who have completed all program, credit, and degree requirements will be recommended for the candidate’s licensure (NCLEXRN®). The baccalaureate program at Northwestern is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Why we do what we do
Each student is important to us. Faculty and staff take time to know students on an individual basis. Our desire is to ensure students have the necessary support and resources in order to be successful in the program. During the first two years of a students’ time at UNW, they have regular meetings with, Leane Gondek, their Pre-Nursing Student Success Program Coach. Over the course of time, a level of trust is built, providing the student with a ‘safe place’ to share their praises and struggles. As students prepare to enroll in their nursing courses, Leane introduces them to a nursing faculty member who will assume the role of advisor for their next chapter.
The School of Nursing also provides support through tutoring, study sessions, and mentoring. From the first day of term 1, each nursing student is given a mentor who happens to be one of the School of Nursing Alumni. The mentor makes themselves available to the new student to answer questions, provide encouragement, study tips, etc. Our Term 4 students mentor the Term 1 students by teaching basic nursing skills. All these opportunities help us share Christ’s love with others.
