When will I know my room assignment?

Students who submit their Fall Housing applications by:

• April 15 will have their housing assignment by May 31
• June 1 will have their housing assignment by July 1
• July 1 will have their housing assignment by August 1
• After July 1 will not have their housing assignment until just prior to Orientation

Students who submit their Spring Housing applications by:

• December 14 will have their housing assignment by January 4
• After December 14 will not have their housing assignment until just prior to Orientation

How can I see who my roommate(s) are?

Once assigned a room, you can look up what room and roommate(s) you have been assigned to by visiting the UNW Housing Home Page. Select Room and Roommate Assignment under the term you are applying for to find this information.

It is highly suggested that, once you have been assigned to a room and know who your roommates are, that you reach out to your roommates. This is a great way to get to know each other before you arrive on campus and also gives you the opportunity to discuss how all of you will want to set up your room. Can I live off-campus?

Per the UNW Housing policy, all students who are seeking a Traditional Undergraduate degree, and are under the age of 21 as of the first day of classes of the Fall semester, are required to live in University housing for the entire academic year.

Students who are part-time during both the Fall and Spring semesters (less than 12 credits, including both traditional undergraduate and undergraduate online learning credits), married, or living with one or both parents are exempt from this policy. If you do not meet one of these three exemptions, you will be required to reside on campus. Living with relatives other than your parent(s) (i.e. aunts, uncles, grandparents, siblings, etc.) is not permitted under these exemption guidelines and you will be required to live on campus.

If you qualify to commute either by meeting the age requirement or by qualifying for an exemption, please visit the UNW Housing Home Page to access and complete the Commuter Application for the term for which you are applying.

• Select the Commuter Application link under the header of the term for which you are applying. (We recommend using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari as your web browser.)
• If you do not meet the age requirement to live off campus the application will direct you to apply for an exemption.
• Once your exemption application is approved you will receive notification that you are eligible to commute. Otherwise, if your exemption is denied, you will be notified that you will be required to live on campus.
• Please know that if you do not communicate your intentions to commute, you will be placed in on-campus housing.

*Please note that PSEO commuters are not required to apply for commuter status.

I’m an on-campus PSEO or Early College student. Can I live on campus?

Yes!

How do UNW Meal Plans work?

Our meal plans are different than typical college meal plans. They are entirely “a la carte”, declining balance plans. With this type of system, it gives a lot of flexibility in how they use their plan.

Food items in all of our locations are priced individually. Students go into any of our three locations, choose their items, and take the items to the cashier. The cashier will total their items and swipe the student’s ID card to access their dining funds. That total comes off their balance, just like a debit card. Students can track their balance by asking the cashier or accessing their account online. Students are also able to use their dining funds at our food vending machines on campus.

While this type of system gives students flexibility, it also requires planning. Much like planning a grocery budget when you get out of school, in order to make the most of your meal plan, you need to plan how you will make the best use of your plan. How you spend it is up to you!

I’m planning on living on-campus. How much does my meal plan cost?

A first year residential student will have a plan that is $1650 in dining funds for the semester. Most students are on campus about 90 days during a semester. That gives them right around $18-$18.50/day to spend. For most students that will buy about two meals, and may several snacks during the week.

Another way to think about it is that a semester is 16 weeks. That gives you about $103 per week to spend. If you want 10 meals per week, you can spend $10.30 per meal. If you want $12 meals, you can spend just over $8.50 per meal. 

A transfer residential student is assigned a plan with $1200 in dining funds per semester. A typical student is on campus approximately 90 days during the semester. That would give the student approximately $13 – $13.50 per day to spend, which is one small meal and one larger meal for most students. 

Or, if you consider that a semester is 16 weeks, that would give the student $75 per week to spend. That could be 8 – 9 meals at about $8.50 per meal.

I’m going to be a commuter. How much does my meal plan cost?

A first-year commuter student is assigned a plan with $285 in dining funds for the semester. The semester is 16 weeks. That gives them about $17-$18 to spend each week, which is a couple of meals for most students.

A transfer commuter student is assigned a plan with $260 in dining funds for the semester. The semester is 16 weeks. That gives them about $16.25 to spend each week, which is a couple of meals for most students.

An on campus PSEO commuter student is not assigned a meal plan, but will be sent separate instructions on how to purchase dining funds.”

Is there a meal plan option for PSEO students?

PSEO students are not required to purchase a meal plan. However, depending on how often you will be on-campus, you may benefit from a plan.

A starter plan for PSEO students is $125/semester, which includes $100 in dining funds and a $25 dining fee. When you are on a plan, you receive a 20% discount off the cash prices and do not have to pay sales tax. Additional funds can be added during the semester without paying any additional fee.

You will receive an email that your account has been activated within two business days, and the charges will post to your Student Account. As a reminder, you can add funds in increments of $100 at any time during the semester, using the GET FUNDS program.

• Select the Textbooks tab and then “Buy Textbooks.”
• Select a campus term, department, course, and section and click “Add Course To List.”
• Repeat the previous step for each of your classes. Once you are finished, click “Get Your Books.”
• Select which books you want to purchase and if you want new, used, rental, etc. Once you’ve selected everything you want, click “Purchase.”
• Review your order and click “Checkout.” Returning customers can enter their email address and password. New users will need to create an account.
• Payment methods: credit card or student account (must be your 8-digit student ID; add leading zeros to make your ID 8-digits long (ie. 00123456)). Each semester you will receive a $1,000 credit limit that you may charge at the Campus Store. Whatever you charge will be billed to your student account and you will receive a bill from Accounting unless you have funds on your account to cover the charge.
• Once your order is submitted you will receive an email with your order number and confirmation. If you selected your books as In-Store Pick-Up you will pick up your order right before the semester begins. If you selected your order to ship, it will ship as soon as we have all the items to fulfill your order.

We recommend waiting to order your books until the middle of July for fall admits or last week of December for spring admits as some books may change and we won’t have many of the books in stock until that point. At that time you will also be able to see what books can be rented and what books we have available in used copies.
