Application Process
We are thrilled to hear you are interested in applying for the Classical Christian Honors College. The application process for CCHC is separate from an application to UNW to ensure students are the right fit for this program. We consider your entire academic portfolio and encourage you to apply if you’re interested in the program. Historically, UNW honors students have had an average unweighted high school GPA of 3.92 or an average ACT score of 28. Here is what you need to do before applying to the Classical Christian Honors College:
- Begin your application to the University of Northwestern – St. Paul. You may submit your CCHC application while your UNW application is in process.
- Please provide two references that can speak towards your academic ability on the CCHC application. UNW will reach out, via the email you provide, and ask for each reference to submit a academic letter of recommendation on your behalf. These should be from high school instructors who know you well and can speak to your academic capabilities and readiness. Recommendations must not come from parents.
- Prepare your five personal essays. The application will ask you to submit your response to each of the following questions with brief essays of between 400 and 700 words. UNW’s Honors College is a competitive program, and essay responses should be carefully written and edited. Ultimately, however, your essay responses help us to get to know you and how you think. Please submit honest, original answers written only by you. The use of generative artificial intelligence is not permitted.
- How has your understanding of Jesus shaped your worldview, relationships, and goals?
- Can you describe a time when you had to think critically about a complex issue or problem? How did you approach the issue, and what was the outcome?
- How do you differentiate between thinking critically and merely accepting information at face value?
- Why do you want to be part of the Classical Christian Honors College?
- What experiences have shaped your sense of purpose, and how do you want to make a positive impact in the world?
