Amy Groetsema Nelson serves as the Coordinator for the Communication Arts and Literature Education (CALE) and Social Studies Education programs. Additionally, she teaches core and methods courses in the School of Education, supervises teacher candidates in field placements, and teaches literature through Dual Enrollment. Prior to joining the School of Education, Dr. Nelson taught English Language Arts in a variety of middle schools and high schools in the Twin Cities.

Amy’s research interests include novice teachers' abilities to use assessment to improve student learning and how to help foster student resiliency in a virtual learning environment. She enjoys mentoring student teaching candidates, volunteering with ELL students at local schools, and working with teachers in many school districts in the metro area.

Amy enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling with her husband and son. Reading, hiking, and enjoying coffee with a friend are favorite pastimes.
