Born in St. Paul, MN, at a very early age, David moved at age two with his family to Miami, FL, and he grew up in South Florida, attending public schools through high school. Following high school graduation, he headed north to St. Paul Bible College, now Crown College, to pursue pastoral ministry. However, that dream was short-lived. After returning home to Florida, he was finally led to Bethel College, now Bethel University, where he completed his undergraduate work to be a secondary Math teacher. He began teaching as the lone Math teacher in Finlayson, MN, followed by a year at a large high school in Miami, FL, where he was one of eighteen Math teachers. Next, there was an extended period outside education, per se, which included helping to start and run a Christian bookstore, serving in church ministry in Raleigh, NC, and Leesburg, FL, and various business settings, including seven years in Accounting at a large title insurance company in St. Paul, during which time he was married and bought a house. It took having his position as Accounting Manager being eliminated to push him back to full-time education and the public classroom. In this time, he renewed his teaching license, was hired by St. Paul Public Schools, finished his Masters degree, and then finished his public teaching career after twenty years with SPPS. Shortly after taking early retirement, he was asked to consider teaching at Northwestern College, now UNWSP, as a long-term substitute for Professor Vaughn Ekbom, who was going on medical leave. That stint has now extended into his eighth year at UNWSP, serving both in the Mathematics and Engineering Dept., now Computing, Data, and Mathematical Sciences Dept., and the School of Education, where he has supervised both Math and Social Studies students in their high school placements for Methods and Student Teaching. Teaching and serving at Northwestern has been the highlight of his teaching career, keeping Jesus at the forefront.
