In a technologically advanced and digitally connected world, UNW business and marketing students can expect fresh, relevant and engaging discussion from a passionate professional actively working in his academic field of interest.
Northwestern recruited Eric in 2012, after 18 years in sales and marketing. Here, he directed digital marketing strategies and platforms until 2018. Eric pioneered digital marketing best practices at Northwestern and built a team and budget around these initiatives with great results. Having completed his own MBA, Eric has transitioned out of his role in marketing at UNW and has re-vitalized his own two businesses, Illumagine Interactive (a digital marketing agency) and Illumagine Promotions (promotional items and apparel).
Teaching with Passion and Expertise
Eric joined our adjunct faculty ranks in 2015 and teaches traditional and digital marketing courses to undergraduate and MBA students. He is passionate about teaching and preparing young Christian men and women to think critically and ethically about how to engage in business and marketing in a technologically advanced and digitally connected world. The combination of his non-UNW work, his work at the university and ongoing research performed to stay current in his field, means that Eric's students can expect fresh, relevant and engaging discussion from a seasoned professional actively working in his academic field of interest.
For the Glory of God
Eric's life verses are Colossians 3:23,24: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance form the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." (NIV) This principle is the foundation of Eric's work and teaching and drives a strong sense of responsibility in both areas.
With a Heart for Family
Eric has been happily married to his better half since 1992 and has four adult children, two of whom are (or will soon be) UNW alumni. Together, the Olson family shares a passion for making their home a welcome and safe space for people—from students or friends, to those in need of shelter for a season. They desire to see the attractiveness of the early church restored and are committed to living on-mission where God has them.
For Fun
When Eric isn't working with clients, directing programs, or teaching, he enjoys time with family, binge-watching Netflix, playing X-Box, writing and performing music, or golfing.
