My philosophy of teaching is based around the Andragogy theory. Malcolm Knowles’ andragogy theory identifies five assumptions about adult learners. First, adults are at a mature developmental stage and this allows them to be active in directing their learning. Second, adults have had many past experiences to draw upon as they learn. Third, adult learners are ready to learn and see the value of education. Next, adults approach learning as problem-solving. Lastly, adult learners are more internally motivated. My role as an instructor is to act as a facilitator that guides students through their education. Students are expected to be active participants in all aspects of the learning process. Students need to be self-driven and take responsibility for their own learning. Adult learning involves self-reflection, active participation, knowledge sharing, and applying existing knowledge while exploring and learning new concepts.  I have an open-door policy which means come to me with concerns, questions, or praise any time!
