Mark Johnson is new to Northwestern beginning in the fall semester of 2018. Coming from the corporate environment, he is a CPA (Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of Wisconsin) and a CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) with 30+ years of practical experience. He is excited about using this knowledge and experience to help prepare our students for success in their chosen professions.
Although he began his career as an Accounting Manager for a broker dealer, most of his career was spent serving in the Internal Audit and Risk Management functions, including two firms in the CAE (Chief Audit Executive) role. Internal Audit provided an excellent opportunity to be involved with all business-related functions throughout the organization. He has experience in a variety of industries, including banking, insurance, and manufacturing. Many of his audit experiences have taken him on the road throughout the US, Europe, and Latin America.
Over the past years, Mark has served as an adjunct professor in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa, teaching accounting and business courses in the evening. He enjoys connecting accounting theory with practical application. His classroom approach will always include an emphasis on ethics, living out one’s faith in the market place, and practical keys to be successful in the corporate environment.
His hobbies includes hiking, bicycling, and fishing. He and his wife, Debbie, have been married for 40 years and had two children. They enjoy spending time with Ivy, their Old English Sheepdog puppy.
