If you’re coming to UNW this semester, you might be thinking about your school supplies. In addition to the official list of what to bring, here are some things that aren’t listed in your average college list, but are essentials for the life of an everyday eagle.

Bible

First things first: If you don’t have an ESV study Bible, get one, because you’re going to need it. Get ready to study the Bible like you’ve never studied before! Also, if you want to be extra prepared, you should probably get yourself a smaller Bible as well, so that you don’t have to lug around a huge study Bible to chapel every morning.

String or Rope Lights

Dorms are all about making yourself at home. The warm glow of Christmas or patio lights will instantly transform your room from the average college dorm to a cozy space to relax and enjoy with friends.

Sticky Notes, Bulletin Boards, or Marker Boards

Get organized and find some creative ways to communicate with your roommates about things such as schedules, tasks, and chores. This makes those dull things tons more fun, and will also help everyone bond.

Hammock

Hammocks are the ultimate way to chill at UNW. You can hang yours outside of Riley, near the campus green, or on our beautiful island. It’s the perfect way to spend time in the word or even watch Netflix.

Wheels

Even without a car, there are still some great ways to get around quickly on campus. Bikes, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, unicycles…You name it, a freshman has done it.

Spray Paint for The Rock

Ever wanted to graffiti something? Now you can (legally)! The Rock, a Northwestern landmark in the middle of campus, is traditionally for students to decorate to celebrate birthdays, campus events, or general silliness.

Micro Stapler

Get one and bring it to every class. This simple school essential will turn you into a superhero and is the #1 strategy for making friends fast.

A Cozy Blanket

This is an essential for late nights in the Stud (student center). Find the comfiest blanket you can and arm yourself with it when you head to the Stud to prep for a test, hang out with friends, work on a group project with classmates, etc.. Bonus points for a snuggie.

There you have it: everything you really do need to bring as a freshman here at Northwestern. Be prepared to have an awesome semester!
