2020 has been no laughing matter. However, one of the things I miss most is laughing more. The seriousness of what we have been up against has the potential to steal our sense of humor and the gravity of our circumstances has a way of quietly overshadowing our joy. When it feels like a battle to...

My name is Tami “Parker” Hochhalter and my husband Lowell and I attended and met at Northwestern in the 1980’s. It seems like a lifetime ago, and then again, like yesterday. Lowell represented the Eagles on the football field, he was a proud member of the “Fun Bunch”, and he also played a pretty...

Our experiences in 2020 will undeniably mark our students’ generation. Generation Z includes those born between 1997 and 2012, which includes the age range for the majority of our current student population at UNW. The global pandemic, not to mention civil unrest, economic crisis, cataclysmic...

Smart and hard sometimes go together. It is wise to save part of our income for the future. It’s also tough to make sacrifices that put preparation for the future ahead of present needs. It is good for us to eat healthy food. It’s also rough to pass up chocolate chip cookies in favor of steamed...

Our student survey results were crystal clear. UNW students can’t wait to be together again. Anticipating being on-campus, in-person, in the midst of the community they thrive in, feels like approaching an oasis in the COVID desert.

Bob and Jane Hosman attended Northwestern from 1963 – 1966. The two met while taking classes, sharing their first date at the annual spring formal! From their time at Northwestern until now, Bob and Jane have been involved with the University on a deep, heartfelt level.
Over the past two weeks I have witnessed Northwestern students, alumni, faculty, staff, on-air radio hosts, and supporters react and respond with God-honoring leadership to the events surrounding the death of George Floyd.

May was National Mental Health Awareness Month. The goal was and is to take down the stigma associated with mental health challenges. We have a long way to go. In fact, in most churches communities, mental illness is one of the last frontiers in proactive conversation.

Today, Joann lives in New Brighton, but for several years in between, she taught English and spread Christ’s light in China. Joann served in China for the better part of three decades and she is grateful for...
My heart and soul are crushed with grief. What happened to George Floyd on Monday evening was unjust and evil, done in plain sight. It was shameful, disgusting, and disheartening. The video of the event was difficult to watch. I kept crying out, “Please show him mercy.”
