Leadership Opportunities
Each leadership position at UNW is an opportunity for you to lead among your peers and prepare you for your future. We believe being involved and serving complements academics and enhances your overall college experience. Below are a number of student organizations to get involved in. Additionally, there are numerous student clubs that offer leadership opportunities as well.
Approximately 45 percent of UNW students commute to campus. With that in mind, it is important to make sure they are as connected as possible. As a Commuter Life Assistants (CA) you’ll play a foundational role in our effort to see, support, engage and connect commuter students at UNW. CA’s are involved in all aspects of Commuter Life’s reach. Including student care, administrative responsibilities, events and programming, and marketing/advertising.
Core hosts social community events that engage the entire student body. Student leaders are responsible for creating, planning, marketing, evaluating events, and intentionally collaborating with other student program areas. Traditional events include Homecoming, Nickelodeon Universe, and Sunburst Festival. Other past events have included outdoor movies, study breaks, and dances.
Global and Local Engagement (GLE) plans a variety of educational and experiential opportunities for UNW students. These help students think more about their role in their local and global communities. In this organization, there is an Executive Director, Event Associate, and Media & Marketing Associate roles for students to experience leadership.
Tapestry
Tapestry is a student organization focuses on providing programming that cultivates a community where every person experiences a deep sense of belonging and affirmation of their identity in Christ, expressed within each person’s distinct culture. Leadership roles on this team include President, Vice President of Annual Events, Vice President of Seasonal Events, Senior
Multicultural Mentor Program
This is a wonderful opportunity to develop your discipleship skills, make new friends from different cultures and assist new students in finding their place in the UNW community. While this position does not provide a stipend, it does provide exposure and experience in leadership that makes you more desirable for other leadership positions that do offer stipends.

Residence Life is all about fostering community that leads to a sense of belonging, personal growth, and leadership on campus. Positions include Resident Assistants, Assistant Resident Directors, and Resident Discipleship Assistants. They have an opportunity to engage and help students connect both in their individual halls and the campus as a whole.
Assist with planning and coordination of all-campus worship gatherings, prayer gatherings, alternative chapels, and retreats hosted by the Worship Arts Collective. In these roles, students actively support the mission of Spiritual Development.
Student Government represents the student body at UNW. Roles of Student Government include Student Body President, Vice President, Business Director, Communications Director, and eight Student Senators. These positions serve as the primary representative of the student body to the UNW’s Board of Trustees, President, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Northwestern’s Media Entertainment Lab (The MEL) provides students from any major hands-on experience in television, film, and radio. This is a student-led creative learning environment. Students get to produce real content without fear of failing. There are no graded assignments and endless ways to get involved both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
